• Counseling to prevent drug/alcohol abuse and other issues that negatively affect school performance
• Parent involvement and community service initiatives
• 7th grade Mini-Retreats focusing on career exploration
• 8th grade college visitation programs—tours of Nash and Edgecombe Community Colleges and North Carolina Wesleyan College
• 8th grade College Fair featuring representatives from over 12 colleges and universities

    2. By Volunteering

Interested in providing academic support? Mentoring and serving as a role model? Then agreeing to be a CIS Volunteer is for you. Qualifications:

      a desire to help children
a belief in the ability of all individuals to be successful
completion of tutor/mentor training provided by CIS

    Why should I get involved?

    1. Because young people need positive, successful adult role models
    2. Because young people need guidance in setting and achieving goals
    3. Because a relationship works two ways. You stand to gain insights of young people and helping them succeed is a great source of satisfaction
